The lore
A cat swallowed enchanted coral and grew eight legs. True story.
In 2007, Simon Oxley— the artist behind the original Twitter bird — drew a strange little creature he called the Octopuss. GitHub's founders bought it, and she became the face that greets a hundred million developers every single day. Her name, Mona Lisa the Octocat, came from a GitHub developer's daughter, who wrote a story about a cat that swallowed enchanted coral at the beach and woke up with octopus legs.
Simon passed away in April 2026. $MONAis a tribute to the artist who drew the internet's visual identity — and to the culture his cat built. No team tokens, no bundles, no promises. Creator fees are pledged to the GitHub developer the community is in contact with. Pure tribute.

In memory of Simon Oxley — creator of the Octocat and the original Twitter bird
